Korean carriers see drop in cargo

Both Korean Air and Asiana Airlines have had massive falls in air cargo tonnages

Air cargo to and from South Korea handled by national carrier Korean Air has fallen to 1.3 million tonnes, down 5.7 per cent from the previous year. Asiana Airlines also saw a drop of 1.8 per cent year-on-year drop in air freight handling 300,000 tonnes in the first half this year after a 3.5 per cent decline.It recorded 600,000 tonnes last year.

In the first half of this year, Korean Air reported $1.4 billion in revenue from the air cargo business: 10.9 per cent dip from 2011. During that period, the share of air cargo in total revenue went down from 31.6 to 26.1 per cent.
