Cargo centre at Colombo hopes to handle more than 180,000 metric tonnes in 2012

SriLankan Cargo has positioned Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) as a regional hub for air freight, by handling the highest ever volumes of both total cargo and transshipment cargo in a single month. BIA has projected that it could handle more than 180,000 metric tonnes in 2012, surpassing its existing record.

SriLankan Cargo Centre at BIA has seen an increase of 12.5 per cent in cargo till July this year, while total transshipment cargo witnessed 11 per cent increase. The total transshipment of 3,387 metric tonnes in July 2012 was also a single-month record.
