The European Union may recommend the suspension of the emission fees for airlines (EU Emissions Trading System or EU ETS) – stalling a trade war with China, US and other nations that have been opposing the fees. The move seeks to allow time for a global agreement to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the aviation industry to be fashioned out.  China and India, for example, have forbidden their airlines from participating in the ETS stating that the move infringed on their sovereignty.
