AAPA’s August figures fail to dispel gloom

International air cargo demand continues to remain weak

AAPA air freight markets Asia Association of Asia Pacific Airlines August exports freight capacity slowdown weakness

Preliminary traffic figures for August from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) showed the continued weakness in air freight markets. The depressed condition led to a corresponding slowdown in exports from Asia. International air cargo demand, as expressed in freight tonne kilometre (FTK) terms, was 4.4 per cent lower in August compared to the same month last year. Combined with a 4.1 per cent reduction in offered freight capacity, the average international air cargo load factor was almost unchanged, at 64.6 per cent.
