American Airlines (AA) has decided to notify 11,000 employees that they could be sent on forced vacation for 60 to 90 days. The carrier has also said that it expected 4,000 of these workers receiving the notices to actually be laid off.

AA has targeted about 14,000 job cuts as part of its bankruptcy restructuring. It now expects 10,000 of that total to be achieved through “early-out” programs and new labour agreements reached with unions.
