BAA Ltd., the UK airport operator, has decided to sell London’s Stansted Airport and one of the bidders is Ryanair which has held discussions to take a 25 per cent stake in the airport. BAA said that it was ending the legal battle to prevent the sale of Stansted, which had been ordered by the Competition Commission in 2009 but had been contested by BAA.

The airport is primarily an express and freighter hub and handled around 206,000 tons of cargo in 2011. BAA sold London Gatwick for $1.55 billion in 2009 and Edinburgh Airport for $1.2 billion in April.
