Canada and the United States have come to an understanding on air cargo security. One of the first initiatives in the Beyond the Border Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness Action Plan that was announced by Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper and US president Barack Obama some time ago, cargo shipped on passenger aircraft will be screened only once for transportation security reasons, at the point of origin and will not need to be rescreened prior to being uploaded on an aircraft in the other country. The move will bring down delays and costs that are incurred by both countries screening the same cargo twice.
