Asian developing markets Deutsche Post AG emerging markets express and cargo Frank Appel high profit

High trade volumes to Asian developing markets have provided the Bonn-based Deutsche Post AG (DPW) higher first quarter profits. Earnings before interest and taxes were up 9.9 per cent and grew to 691 million euros ($900 million) from 629 million euros a year earlier.

Europe’s largest mail carrier Deutsche Post has concentrated on expansion in express and cargo businesses in emerging markets.  Chief executive officer Frank Appel said in a statement that the successful start to the year was clear evidence for DPW “to build on our strengths”.
