Ban on sending devices with lithium overseas

Batteries containing lithium are a flight hazard

Ban FedEx iPads iPhones laptops lithium batteries MacBooks overseas shipping smartphones tablets UPS USPS

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has stopped transport of iPads, iPhones, MacBooks, smartphones, laptops, and tablets overseas from the US from 16 May. Reason: the devices contain lithium batteries that are a flight hazard.

USPS states that “primary lithium metal or lithium alloy (non rechargeable) cells and batteries or secondary lithium-ion cells and batteries (rechargeable) are prohibited when mailed internationally or to and from an Army Post Office (APO), Fleet Post Office (FPO), or Diplomatic Post Office (DPO) location”.

The company will, however, allow these products to be shipped within the US. However, UPS and FedEx will continue to ship such items overseas.
