Liege Airport sees January cargo decline

January 2012 cargo throughput for Liege Airport – the seventh largest cargo airport in Europe – has declined 9.9 per cent to 48,341 tonne compared with the same month in 2011. The total number of aircraft movements remained the same, demonstrating clearly the impact of the slowing global economy, said Belgium’s largest cargo airport.

Liege Airport reported a record year for cargo in 2011, handling nearly 674,500 tonnes of cargo during the year, up 5.5 per cent on 2010. During December last year the gateway also reported a growth of 6.7 per cent on the same period a year earlier, handling 55,800 tonnes of cargo that month. In 2012, more than €11 million of investments have been planned to improve the range of cargo services available at the gateway.
