Indian gov’t urged to develop Mangalore airport

India’s Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has asked the Union Government to expedite the process of implementation of air cargo complex in Mangalore, according to a Hindu Business Line report. KCCI president Lata Kini, said the decision on building a full fledged air cargo complex at Mangalore airport has been pending for some time and needs to be expedited. She also stressed the need for declaring Mangalore an international airport, adding that this had not yet occurred despite Air India Express operating between Mangalore and the Gulf countries. The KCCI has noted there is potential for exporting perishable goods such as vegetables and flowers to Gulf region.
