AirAsia X, the long haul, low cost affiliate of AirAsia has announced further strong growth in the second quarter of 2011. Cargo operations, which it began focusing on from last year, continue to be strong, with AirAsia X carrying 8,998 tonnes of freight, registering a 68 per cent growth from a year ago.
The carrier also saw a 56 per cent rise in passengers carried in the second quarter of 2011 over the same period of 2010, with 620,000 passengers uplifted. The carrier saw a 66.6 per cent year-on-year rise Revenue-Passenger-Kms (RPKs) to 3.5 billion for Q2-2011 with a load factor of 75 per cent.
AirAsia X’s fleet remains at nine Airbus A330s and two Airbus A340s with its route network now standing at 15 destinations globally.
