JAPAN: ANA, AirAsia to launch new Japan-based LCC

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Malaysia's low cost carrier AirAsia said they will launch a new low-cost carrier to be based near Tokyo from August 2012, with operations beginning in about a year.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Malaysia’s low cost carrier AirAsia said they will launch a new low-cost carrier to be based near Tokyo from August 2012, with operations beginning in about a year. The Japanese airline will hold a 67 per cent stake in terms of voting rights in the joint venture, to be called AirAsia Japan, with capitalisation of 5 billion yen (US$63.5 million). AirAsia, Southeast Asia’s largest budget airline by fleet size, will hold the remainder.
