Lufthansa Cargo (LC) saw its air freight volumes increase 14.8 per cent to 953,000 tonnes over the first six months of the year, compared with last year, boosted by strong growth in the Americas, where volumes jumped by 19.5 per cent year-on-year.

Load factor was down from the 72.3 per cent recorded in the first six months of 2010, to 69.1 per cent in the period, while capacity increased capacity by 19.7 per cent, year-on-year, in the period. “This was attributable to reactivation of freighters grounded temporarily in the [financial] crisis, expansion of the AeroLogic fleet to eight aircraft and the carrier marketing the freight capacities at Austrian Airlines since July,” Lufthansa Cargo said.
