Hong Kong-based Kerry Logistics has begun construction of a 42,600sq metre state-of-the-art logistics centre in Xiamen. The Kerry Xiamen Logistics Centre, at the Haicang Export Processing Zone, will accommodate a wide range of products from sectors including hi-tech and electronics, food, beverages and perishables and is scheduled to begin operations in the third quarter of 2012. Haicang is one of 15 export processing zones approved by China’s State Council. It is also a bonded area and has been fully equipped with roads, electricity, telecoms, water, sewage treatment, heaters and has a liquefied gas supply. Kerry said the logistics centre would be ideally located to cater for the increasing growth in cross-straits trade.
