The theft of a parcel containing 10 kg of gold from the Air Cargo Complex at the Sardar Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat State, has sparked a major security review resulting in plans for tighter controls at the cargo complex. The cargo consignment had arrived aboard a Singapore Airlines flight and went missing from the cargo complex where it was being stored. The Gujarat State Export Corporation (GSEC), which manages operations for the customs department at the cargo facility, now plans to introduce biometric security checks for visitors and those working at the complex. GSEC has also decided to double the number of security guards and install five more CCTV cameras at the facility.
