Qatar Airways has announced it will add three B777 freighters to its fleet as maindeck capacity continues its rapid growth in the Middle East market. The wide-body freighters will join the carriers�� fleet of five all-cargo aircraft already in operation, including two long-range, twin-engine B777s and three smaller A300-600s in regional cargo service. Air freight traffic in the Middle East grew 26.7 per cent last year, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the region led the world in cargo capacity growth, with 15.7 per cent expansion over 2009. The region��s air freight traffic even withstood the industry downturn in 2009, growing 3.9 per cent even as global business fell at a record pace.
