Chilean airline LAN recently reported that fourth-quarter profit rose 50 per cent to US$165 million, on the back of strong air and cargo traffic. The regional carrier’s 2010 profit rose 82 per cent to $419.7 million from last year. LAN said last week that it expects to complete the merger with Brazil’s TAM, creating Latin America’s largest airline. in six to nine months, pending approval in Brazil and Chile.
