MIDDLE EAST: Israeli air cargo movements in 2010 up 10%

Total air cargo movements through Israel’s airports amounted to 302,903 tonnes in 2010, up 10.4 per cent on 2009’s 274,319 tonnes. The Israel Airports Authority reported that during December Ben-Gurion International Airport handled 26,197 tonnes of air cargo compared to 28,587 tonnes in December 2009, down 8.4 per cent. In December 2010 El Al carried 5,039 tonnes of cargo in the belly holds of its passenger fleet, an increase of 7.3 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier when it carried 4,695 tonnes and 4,568 tonnes onboard its freighters, an increase of 10.8 per cent, year-on-year. For the full year 2010 El Al carried 57,651 tonnes of cargo in the belly holds of its passenger fleet, up 19.6 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier when it carried 48,197 tonnes. The other key Israeli cargo carrier, CAL, carried on its freighters 4,584 tonnes in December 2010, down 19 per cent compared to the 5,668 tonnes it carried a year earlier. For the full year CAL carried 49,016 tonnes, down 6.7 per cent compared to 52,526 tonnes a year earlier.
