South America’s LAN Airlines and its subsidiaries saw cargo traffic increase by 9.6 per cent in November compared to the same month of last year. The carrier said the increase was mainly due to the recovery and growth of the import markets to Latin America, driven by Brazil, and the increase in operations to Europe with its B777 freighter fleet. The carrier now has two 103-tonne payload B777-200 freighters in its fleet operating long-haul services. In addition, LAN Cargo has launched domestic cargo operations in Brazil through its affiliate ABSA to Recife and Fortaleza. In line with higher demand, capacity grew by 11.9 per cent and, as a result, the cargo load factor decreased 1.6 points to 72.5 per cent. LAN Cargo and its respective cargo affiliates operate a combined fleet of 12 freighters.
