DHL Global Forwarding has invested over RM1million (US$317,460) in a new integrated facility at Penang’s new central cargo hub. Its fourth facility in Penang the one-stop facility is located at the airport’s new Kompleks Kargo Udara Kedua (KLAS), is located on the east side of Penang airport and expands its operational footprint in Penang by 20 per cent. The facility combines air freight export, import, warehousing and crossborder road freight operations all under a single roof. The benefits to customers, according to DHL include easy access to multiple logistics solutions, faster turnaround times and improved cost efficiencies. “The business environment in Penang has changed with much more intra- Asian trade taking place which demand more logistics options,¡± said DHL Global Forwarding Malaysia managing director, Dennis van der Meijs. “Penang is also powering ahead with import volume up 60 per cent and export volume up 50 per cent by the third quarter of 2010. In this competitive marketplace, customers are looking for maximum flexibility,¡± added. DHL Global Forwarding’s operations in Penang now include four processing facilities three on Penang Island (including KLAS) and one ocean freight office on mainland.
