The addition of China Southern Cargo to the SkyTeam Cargo Alliance will significantly boost its global footprint of the cargo alliance by adding China Southern’s extensive domestic route network and strong exposure in Central Asia, North East Asia and the Middle East. Chen Gang, executive VP of China Southern Airlines and Leo van Wijk, chairman of SkyTeam Alliance, signed the China Southern Cargo Alliance Adherence Agreement at TIACA’s International Air Cargo Forum and Exposition in Amsterdam in early-November “China Southern Airlines is implementing a development strategy which will transform it into an international, network-oriented airline,” said Chen. “We have been looking forward to cooperating with leading airlines around the world to speed up our integration into the international aviation industry, build up our brand awareness and enhance our international competitiveness. SkyTeam Cargo is the perfect platform that allows us to obtain this goal.” China Southern Cargo’s membership with SkyTeam Cargo provides a solid platform to learn from SkyTeam Cargo member carriers, integrating itself with international first class standards in areas such as governance and international competitiveness positioning, SkyTeam said. Commenting on the occasion, van Wijk said: “It is my privilege to welcome China Southern Airlines Cargo as our first carrier from China and as our number eight member to the SkyTeam Cargo Alliance. An important new milestone has been reached as SkyTeam Cargo members connect with the biggest airline in China. It creates ample opportunities for a close cooperation with China Southern Airlines to connect to the booming Chinese market with its remarkable double digit growth. ” China Southern will launch the SkyTeam Cargo common product line, including Equation, Cohesion, Variation and Dimension on its international routes. In addition, the carrier will adopt SkyTeam Cargo unified service standards, simplify handling procedures and enhance ground service quality through SkyTeam Cargo joint purchasing initiatives of ground handling service worldwide. SkyTeam Cargo was launched in 2000 and includes members Aeromexico Cargo; Air France Cargo; Alitalia Cargo; Czech Airlines Cargo; Delta Cargo; KLM Cargo, Korean Air Cargo and China Southern Airlines Cargo. China Southern Cargo operates five B777-200 Freighters, two B747-400 freighters, and one A300-600F, with plans to expand its fleet to nine with the introduction of another B777-200F in 2011.
