A new all-cargo carrier, Shanghaibased China Cargo Airlines, started operations at Singapore’s Changi Airport from early October. A joint venture between China Eastern Airlines and China Ocean Shipping, the airline will be the third all-freighter airline adding Singapore this year, along with Malaysia’s Transmile Air and Indonesia’s Tri-MG Airlines. The new carrier will operate 12 weekly flights with Boeing 777-200F and MD-11F aircraft, linking Singapore with Bangkok and Shanghai. For the first eight months of the year, Singapore’s total cargo throughput rose 15 per cent compared with the same period last year, with about 1.19 million tonnes moved.
