DHL has maintained its position as 2009’s busiest air freight forwarder in Europe, North America and Asia, according to International Air Transport Association (IATA) statistics. The figures are based on the IATA-managed clearing house between airlines and airfreight service providers. “The IATA ranking confirms that DHL Global Forwarding has sustained its position as market leader, despite last year’s difficult economic environment,” said Hermann Ude, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding. “In 2010 we’ve benefited inordinately from the worldwide economic recovery, not least because of our strong presence in growth regions like Asia. We are also confident that, in the months ahead, we will be able to develop our business dynamically.” In the latest rankings, DHL is ranked the top air freight forwarding company in the US and Canada and recaptured the top position in the important German market. It is also number-one in Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and 11 other European markets, while its freight divisions in Ireland and Spain also moved up to first place. In Asia, DHL Global Forwarding secured further top rankings in Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore and Indonesia.
