India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation has proposed 100 per cent pre-flight, breath analyser tests for the entire crew ¨C pilots and cabin crew ¨C of all scheduled domestic and international flights operated by Indian carriers. At present, only random checks take place that are intensified during festive seasons and New Year’s Eve with scheduled airlines expected to do 60 per cent crew’s pre-flight testing on a random basis. But the DGCA is pushing for 100 per cent testing as part of its “zero tolerance” policy which saw it bring in the provision for imposing hefty fines along with a jail term for violations.
