Air India is planning to dry-lease four Airbus A330 aircraft to serve some of its medium-haul international routes, Indian press reported recently. The leasing period would be between 1.5 and two years starting from between October 2010 and September 2011. An airline official was quoted as saying the Indian carrier is currently leasing four aircraft ¨C of which two are A330s used on the Jeddah and Shanghai sectors, but that the carrier’s actual requirement is ten. Air India, which placed orders for 27 of Boeing’s new Dreamliner 787, is understood to be leasing the A330s because of mounting delays in the delivery of the B787s, for which Air India has sought compensation.
