Airbus’ delivery of 12 A330-200 freighters to India’s Flyington Freighters will be delayed until 2011, with Flyington threatening legal action as they were originally set for delivery in July 2008.

Hyderabad-based Flyington plans to operate cargo services from India to destinations throughout Europe, West Asia and Africa.

Deliveries of the A330 freighters were delayed after Flyington Freighters failed to get an air operator’s certificate to launch operations with used aircraft as planned, which made it difficult for the company to make the pre-delivery payments for the Airbus aircraft. Such deposit payments are normally paid before production begins. Etihad Crystal Cargo took delivery of the first freighter on 9 August.

Flyington Freighters initially entered discussions with Boeing for the purchase of freighter aircraft, but it later switched to Airbus and in March 2007 ordered six A330-200s, which were scheduled for delivery beginning in July 2008.
