Latin American carriers LAN and TAM have announced plans to merge as the Latam Airlines group. Chile-based LAN and Brazil-based TAM announced recently that they had forged a nonbinding memorandum of understanding that outlined their intentions to combine their holdings, which will need approval of shareholders and regulatory authorities in both countries. They are the two largest airline groups by revenue in the region.
