Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co. Ltd. (PACTL) has announced that in week 17 of this year from 26 April to 2 May, it set a new weekly record by handling 30,142 tonnes of air freight which surpassed the previous record of 28,400 tonnes set in November 2009.

The new record is the best evidence to show sustaining strong recovery and demands for air cargo transport since July 2009, PACTL said in a statement. The strong volumes were attributed to unprecedented increase in international import cargo which rose by 134 per cent and China domestic cargo by 216 per cent year-on-year from January to April. In the first 4 months of 2010, PACTL handled 401,332 tonnes of cargo with an increase of 94 per cent over the same period of 2009.PACTL said it was confident the strong volume growth would continue.
