There have been no reports of ashfall; no lightning strikes have been detected and no noises reported, Iceland’s meteorology department said on 24 May.
“Today, the eruption seems to be dormant. There is still a considerable amount of steam coming from the crater, but no ash can be seen in it,†it said in a statement.
The Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted on 14 April causing a plume of ash to spread across much of Europe, closing airspace sporadically due to fears the sediment in the plume could cause engine failure in aircraft.
