Canada’s Cargojet has entered into a strategic aircraft lease agreement with LOT Polish Airlines effective 7 November. Under the deal, Cargojet will operate a weekly trans-Atlantic flight between Hamilton International Airport and Poland making it the only direct freighter service between North America and Poland.
“We are very excited to be the first North American all cargo operator to introduce this new freighter service,†said Ajay K. Virmani, president and CEO of Cargojet Income Fund. “The B767- 200 Extended Range freighter aircraft will allow us to provide significant international air cargo capacity, as the global economy rebounds.
In Canada, the goods will be transported to their destination point by Cargojet. If the destination point is outside Canada, LOT will tap its interline agreements giving it access to any city within the US, as well as Central and South America.
“As Canada’s number one multimodal cargo airport, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (HIA) is excited as the alliance between Cargojet and Lot Polish Airlines provides us with our first scheduled international air cargo service,†said Richard Koroscil, president and CEO. “We believe that this expansion into the global marketplace is a tremendous opportunity that supports both the growth and development of HIA and its surrounding community.â€Â
