Perhaps driven by an exhaustion of the doom and gloom thesaurus, a spokesperson for BAA – which operates seven UK airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh and Glasgow – has clearly run out of people to blame for the group’s 21.4 per cent decline in cargo volumes during February, which included an 18 per cent drop at Heathrow, the UK’s biggest air cargo hub. BAA said the steep declines were a result of the current economic environment with the spokesperson also blaming “adverse weather conditions†and a leap year during 2008, which added an extra day of traffic to last year’s figures, thereby amplifying the declining numbers. Hmmm, here at Bellyache Central, we’re thinking this one big blast of hot air!
