In an apparent rush to get to his destination, an impatient airline passenger decided to de-plane while the aircraft was still taxiing! American Airlines Flight 1343 had landed safely at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and was parked on the ramp while taxiing to the gate when a man hopped out of his seat, ran into fi rst class and then opened the right-handgalley door.

When the door opened, the 26-yearold poster boy for the disease known as ‘stupidity’, deployed the emergency slide and slid down the ramp and onto the ground below before calmly walking toward the terminal. Of course his dimwitted action delayed the rest of the passengers who had to wait while airline maintenance removed the slide from the MD-80 so that the aircraft could continue on to the gate.

He was detained a short time later by two American Airlines Fleet Service clerks and the police who arrested him before sending him to the hospital for a psychological examination. But maybe he wasn’t so crazy after all – think of the cost savings for airlines if everybody de-planed immediately after landing, no need for expensive ground passenger services!
