The head of Boeing Co.’s commercial-aircraft segment has reaffirmed that it still intends to make the first commercial delivery of its much-delayed 787 Dreamliner in the first quarter of 2010. “At Boeing, the fundamentals of our production programs are sound to excellent, and we’re working through the challenges of the development difficulties,” Scott Carson, CEO of Boeing’s commercial group, told an audience of financial investors and analysts in New York. Getting the 787 certified and into service is “job one for Boeing,” Carson said. “Our focus right now is on product development and execution,” he said, before adding that “the stumbles we’ve made are embarrassing for us.” All of the fundamental design elements and technologies Boeing designed into the plan “are working,” he emphasised, and the problems the company encountered with its ambitious worldwide supply chain are now being resolved.
