Expansion is planned in four stages, ultimately boosting the airport’s capacity to 48 million passengers by 2050 (it handled 4.8 million passengers in 2006).
Scheduled to be completed by 2010, the first phase will reach a capacity of 12 million passengers a year and included in the plan is a new passenger terminal, a second runway, control tower, new VIP building and cargo terminal designedto handle 200,000 tonnes of cargo a year.
