Dili-based Timor Air and Brisbanebased Australian airline SkyAirWorld are to create Timor Air – a new national carrier for the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (East Timor).

Under the agreement, Timor Air will utilise a 94-seat Embraer E-190 aircraft provided by SkyAirWorld. SkyAirWorld will also support Timor Air through the provision of management support on an ongoing basis.

Also as part of the agreement, SkyAirWorld will undertake the training of East Timorese cabin crew as well as provide training in a range of other areas. The fi rst cabin crew training will begin in January 2009.

Subject to regulatory approvals, Timor Air will commence operations in February with daily flights linking Dili in East Timor with Darwin (Australia) and Denpasar (Bali). Additional routes are expected to be added during 2009.
