August volumes Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) announced its tonnage throughput for August was 51,453 tonnes, down 7 per cent compared with the same period last year. Export cargo registered 35,140 tonnes, recording a decrease of 6 per cent from last year. Import cargo volume for Augustwas 15,942 tonnes, down 10 per cent from 2007. Transhipment cargo volumewas 371 tonnes, recording a decline of34 per cent when compared against correspondingperiod in 2007.
A total of 411,954 tonnes were handled from January to August, recorded an increase of 2 per cent compared to last year. Cumulative export cargo of the year recorded 277,928 tonnes, up 2 per cent against same period last year. Aggregate import tonnage registered 131,146 tonnes, representing a year-onyear growth of 1 per cent . Total transhipment volume up to August 2008 was 2,880 tonnes, down 13 per cent against same period last year.
AAT GM, Planning & Services, Mr. Nelson Lee said: “Although the economic sentiments are on the gloomy side, AAT is still prepared to handle the seasonal peak expected in the final quarter.”
