Korean Airlines Cargo has upgraded its operations in Melbourne from an A330-200 aircraft to B777-200.
Australian freight manager Gary Jones said the upgrade in aircraft type to B777- 200 would see up to 10 tonnes additional cargo capacity per flight, which will be targeted at improving its perishables uplift to the Japan and Europe markets.
Korean, the world’s largest international air cargo carrier, also posted a net loss of 289 billion won (US$279 million) for the three months ended June 30, its third straight quarterly loss.
Sales were up 18 per cent, but fuel expenses increased 79.4 per cent and were exacerbated by weakness in the South Korean won against the US dollar. But, the weak currency boosted cargo revenue by 28.4 per cent as Korean exporters shipped more products overseas.
