A mobile scanning machine capable of screening the contents of large cargo containers was used for the first time last month to check trucks entering O’Hare International Airport, in a surprise move.
The exercise, part of a drill involving federal and city agencies, will become a common security practice as a 2010 deadline requiring screening of all cargo that is loaded aboard passenger planes approaches, according to the US Department of Homeland Security.
Cargojet expands fleet with B757/767Fs Canadian cargo airline Cargojet has taken delivery of its first B757-200F and B767-200ERF freighter aircraft, adding the freighters to its fleet of 33 aircraft. The B757-200ERF has a cargo payload of 80,500 pounds, representing an increase in payload of 33 per cent with a 13 per cent decrease in fuel burn compared to the current B727-200 Advanced Freighter Aircraft, Cargojet says.
Cargojet also announced an expansion of hangar and maintenance facilities at its Hamilton International Airport HQ. Construction has begun on 65,000 square feet of hangar space and 12,000 square feet for offices and parts storage plus 75,000 square feet of apron area.
