Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) announced today its tonnage throughput for June was down 4 percent to 52,863 tonnes, compared with the same month last year.
Export cargo in June amounted to 36,171 tonnes, which was comparable to last year. Import cargo volume for June was 16,321 tonnes, down 12 per cent from 2007. Transhipment cargo volume was 370 tonnes, representing a 4 per cent decline year-on-year.
The cumulative tonnage through put from January to June 2008 was 306,898 tonnes achieving a growth of 4 per cent against same period last year. Total export cargo volume for the first half of 2008 was 205,974 tonnes up 4 per cent, while import cargo volume also grew by 4 per cent to 98,798 tonnes. The total transhipment volume up to June 2008 was 2,126 tonnes, down 4 per cent against same period last year.
“Although the inflation and precautionary sentiment among consumers seem to be showing up on the sluggish cargo traffic, AAT’s services are not slowing down as we expect traffic growth to gain pace in the second half of the year,”said AAT general manager, Planning & Services, Nelson Lee.
