Cargolux Airlines International S.A. has announced a new weekly service from Asia directly into Vienna/Austria. The new service was initiated upon clients’ request, according to Cargolux, based on increased traffic volumes directly into Vienna, offering time and cost efficient connections with Austria and the Eastern European region. It complements the company’s existing Asia-Budapest service, with six flights per week (four out of Hong Kong and two from Taipei/Bangkok).
Commodities flown to Vienna mainly include electronics, such as mobile phones, flat panel screens and other components. Manufacturers are increasingly moving their facilities to Eastern Europe and welcome the new, timesaving service that avoids congested roads and is less costly than operations via major traditional Western European hubs, the carrier said. Commodities out of Austria include heavy machinery and general cargo.
Cargolux operates a fleet of 15 B747-400 freighters on a worldwide network, covering 90 destinations, 60 of which are served on scheduled all-cargo flights.
