Korean Air is eyeing opportunities to expand its market share in North America using Incheon as a gateway hub to China where it already serves 23 Chinese destinations. The carrier is also promoting Incheon as a gateway from the US to Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.
Korean has eight A380s on order, which are slated for delivery beginning in 2010, and are destined for services to New York and Los Angeles. The carrier is also a launch customer for the 787 with 10 firm orders.
This June it will begin flying to Sao Paulo via Los Angeles and in anticipation of growing trade between Asia and Brazil and while it has a codeshare with Chilean LAN Airlines, it is looking to set one up with a Brazilian carrier.
