Boeing and the Government of Iraq have announced an order for 30 Boeing B737-800 aircraft for the renamed Air Iraq, worth US$2.2 billion at current list prices, a move described by Boeing as the first step in re-establishing Iraq¡¯s scheduled commercial aviation operations.
Iraq has also signed options for ten additional B737s and Boeing and Iraqi officials are also in discussions on how Boeing can assist with the modernisation of Iraq¡¯s aviation infrastructure.
Th e two parties are also finalising an agreement for 10 Boeing B787 Dreamliners, which will enable the Iraqi national carrier to provide longer-range commercial service.
¡°Today marks a new beginning for Iraq,¡± Minister of Finance, Bager M. Jabor Al Zubaidy, said during a signing ceremony that was also attended by Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, and Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and Chief Executive Officer, Scott Carson.
