In response to Myanmar’s humanitarian crisis following the devastating cyclone, AirAsia has offered air assistance to facilitate the transportation of aid to the country with immediate effect. This includes sponsoring flights for aid workers and freeing up cargo space for transporting aid materials.
This will be a collaborated effort from the AirAsia Group and AirAsia X across more than 100 destinations, utilising its extensive network in all the ASEAN countries including China and Australia. AirAsia has fi ve flights daily to Bangkok while its Bangkok hub currently serves daily flights to Yangon, Myanmar.
Other carriers, who do not have services into Myanmar, have also offered their services free of charge. Japan Airlines (JAL), for instance has said it will transport relief goods and materials from non-profit public organisations in Japan at their request. Although it does not operate flights to Myanmar, it will carry them to the closest point, such as Thailand.
