Swiss has started a new daily service between Zurich and Shanghai with Airbus A340 aircraft, with the daily non-stop connection with mainland China complementing the airline’s existing services to and from Hong Kong.
The additional capacity is aimed at tapping growing numbers of Swiss tourists visiting China and vice versa, along with growing trade volumes between the two countries which have grown nearly 50 per cent since 2005.
"The demand for business travel between Zurich and Shanghai is growing all the time, so we are delighted to be further expanding our long-haul network with the addition of our new non-stop Zurich- Shanghai service," said Swiss chairman of the board, Rolf P. Jetzer.
The new service will also leverage the fact that Air China and Shanghai Airlines recently joined the Star Alliance which provides Swiss with two well-established local partners offering onward connections from Shanghai to domestic destinations throughout China, as well as Lufthansa’s substantial services into the country.
