Italy’s prime minister-elect Silvio Berlusconi has floated the idea of nationalising Alitalia instead of selling off the state’s 49.9 per cent share in the loss-making airline. He said the government was still looking for stakeholders, but might decide to acquire Alitalia using the country’s national railway, the Ferrovie dello Stato,as a vehicle.
