Nigerian President Umaru Yar’adua recently reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to improving airport security and air safety in the country’s airspace. Receiving a delegation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Yar’adua said Nigeria will continue to partner with the global aviation regulatory body in ensuring aviation safety in order to play a leading role on the African continent.
Delegation head and president of ICAO, Roberto Kobeh, in Nigeria for a three-day symposium commended the current reforms in the Nigerian aviation sector, noting that the result of ICAO’s last audit of Nigeria in October 2007 was satisfactory. He noted that Africa had the highest rate of air accidents in the world and that ICAO would work with Nigeria to improve air safety on the continent.
