Swiss international forwarder and logistics provider Panalpina has recently started a new weekly air freight service to link its worldwide network with Latin America.

Called Palmair, the service is being operated via Miami, Florida as its gateway to offer direct transhipment for destinations in Latin America in cooperation with longstanding partner Centurion Air Cargo.

“Miami serves as Centurion’s base as well as Panalpina’s gateway to Latin America for freight originating from Europe, Asia and North America,” said Panalpina.

“With the new concept, the two companies establish a link between the Latin American connections of Centurion and Panalpina’s European road feeder network with its hub in Luxembourg. Therefore it was an obvious decision for Centurion to subcontract the first leg to Luxembourgbased (freighter operator) Cargolux, which is also a major business partner of Panalpina. Th is set-up enables Panalpina to have total control of the entire cargo flow from origin to destination.”

The main Latin American destinations covered by the new service, include the Columbian cities of Bogota, Medellin and Barranquilla, as well as Caracas (Venezuela), Lima (Peru) and Manaus (Brazil).
