Alaska Airlines’ parent Alaska Air Group has reported a widening loss, joining almost every other listed US airline this month. Like its rivals, Alaska cited soaring fuel prices for a dismal financial performance which saw a US$35.9 million loss for the first quarter, more than three times its $10.3 million loss in the same period a year ago. The result included an accounting adjustment for fuel hedging. Without that, the loss would have been $36.3 million.
