German global logistics provider Birkart Globistics – the air and ocean division of Luxembourg-based group Thiel Logistik AG – has opened a new office in Busan, South Korea.
The new office will significant expand the company’s presence in northeast Asia and was opened in response to growing customer demand and requirements in the region, the group said.
"Our strategic intention is therefore for the new facility to serve as Birkart Globistics’ northeastern Asian gateway for international air cargo and ocean freight services, as well as the domestic centre for our company’s busy logistics and transportation network," said Shawn Lee, managing director of Birkart Korea.
Lee added that the decision by Birkart to establish an operation in Busan was timely given the Korean Government’s ambitions to turn Incheon international Airport, Busan Port and Gwangyang Port into an integrated, international logistics hub providing high value-added freight forwarding and shipping services to neighbouring countries.
Birkart established operations in Korea in 1999. In addition to its new Busan facility, the company also operates a local head office and logistics warehouse in Seoul, plus an air freight centre in Incheon.
